Stem - Steam

STEM or STEAM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in five specific disciplines — Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.  STEM/STEAM uses an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the disciplines as separate subjects, STEM/STEAM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

At Walker Memorial Academy we are committed to preparing our students with the skills needed to make meaningful and responsible contributions to our community and the world. We believe that STEM/STEAM offers innovative and engaging academic practices that can be combined with Biblical principles to teach students through exploratory learning in a way that prepares them to serve God and others.

What separates STEM/STEAM from the traditional science and math education is the blended learning environment and showing students how the scientific method can be applied to everyday life. It teaches students computational thinking and focuses on the real world applications of problem solving.  At Walker Memorial Academy, students begin learning about the pillars of engineering through activities that prompt them to ask questions, imagine, plan, create and improve.
